Current status of children's drug research and development

The economic cost of developing children's drugs is too high. The cost of funding for developing children's drugs is almost twice that of adult drugs. There are also problems with complex processes and long cycles in the development of children's drugs. Each drug needs to undergo 1-4 clinical trials before being launched, and it takes about 3 years for a new drug to be developed and launched. In addition, the country does not have special policies for children's medication, and there are few children's drugs in the basic drug catalog without policy support, and the requirements for children's medication are also high. The lack of research data on children's drugs not only hinders the research and development of children's drugs, but also hinders the rational clinical application. Establishing a pediatric research collaboration network is conducive to sharing research data, strengthening cooperation among relevant parties, fully leveraging the value of existing achievements, supplementing more evidence-based medical data for new drug parameters for children in China, improving the research and development efficiency of children's drugs, and promoting the multifaceted development of children's drugs. At the same time, it is also necessary to connect with the relevant systems of the National Adverse Reaction Monitoring Center or establish a national network for detecting adverse drug reactions in children, fully realizing the value of existing child data, and solving the problem of insufficient research and development and rational use of clinical data for some children's medication
